General Information
PURPOSE: To offer students of MMTA members a state level competition that will encourage them to work toward their highest potential by recognizing and rewarding their excellence in musical performance.

WHEN: Spring 2009
ELIGIBILITY: Students must be studying with an active member of MTNA/MMTA at the time of application. Any first place winner of the Pine Tree Piano Competition may compete only in a higher age category at the next competition.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Completed application form, with non-refundable application fee ($20 for Elementary, $25 for Junior, $30 for Senior).
Award Categories
- ELEMENTARY: Open to students up to and including 6th grade. Program not to exceed 10 minutes.
- JUNIOR: Open to students grades 7 through 9. Program not to exceed 15 minutes.
- SENIOR: Open to students grades 10 through 12. Program not to exceed 20 minutes.
Repertoire Requirements
All entrants must prepare two memorized pieces of contrasting styles: one work from the Baroque or Classic eras, and the second work from the Romantic, Impressionist, or 20th Century periods. In addition, all entrants must perform a required work from memory.
Additional Information
Please read the following section carefully before applying to the competition.
- All entrants must provide the judges with an original copy of their music. No photocopies of music in publication will be allowed.
- Any names or other identification marks on the music should be covered for the purpose of anonymity.
- Judges reserve the right to hear only a portion of the program prepared.
- Adjudication will end at 5:00. First. second, and third place winners may be chosen and will be announced by the end of the day. Judges' decisions are final. Winners may be asked to perform at a later date.
- All trophies awarded will be judged upon the day's performance only. Judges' comments will be provided to individual entrants following the competition.
- By submitting students to the competition, you are committing to volunteer in some capacity on the competition day. Expect to be assigned a certain task.
